OAKLAND, Calif. – Aug. 2, 2023 – Turnitin’s AI writing detection feature and Gradescope by Turnitin earned Best of Show honors from Tech & Learning for their efforts to transform education in schools around the world. Evaluation criteria included ease of use, value, uniqueness in the market, and proof that the product helped make teachers' lives easier and supported student achievement.
The awards were announced at the International Society for Technology for Education’s (ISTE) annual edtech event, ISTELive 2023, in Philadelphia. Attendees included kindergarten through 12th grade education leaders, teachers, coaches and librarians/media specialists.
Turnitin’s most recent launch, an AI writing detection feature, gives educators a report within their existing Turnitin workflow providing an overall percentage of the document that AI writing tools, like ChatGPT, may have generated. More than 65 million papers have been reviewed since the April launch of its new feature. Of those 65 million papers, over 2.1 million – 3.3 percent – have been flagged as having at least 80 percent AI writing present. Nearly 6.7 million – 10.3 percent – have over 20 percent AI writing present.
Gradescope by Turnitin helps educators administer and grade assessments, online or in-class. The platform is used by over 1.8 million active students and 124,000 instructors globally. It supports different variable-length assignments – both digital and paper-based – such as problem sets and projects, as well as fixed-template assignments like worksheets, quizzes, bubble sheets and exams.
Gradescope by Turnitin supports assessments in:
