Confirmation

 

Students in 8th-12th grade are eligible to receive the sacrament of Confirmation through St. Thomas Aquinas’ Youth Ministry Program.  The candidate’s readiness to receive this sacrament is determined by a discernment process involving families and the parish staff. The following are expectations for the family when choosing to participate in the discernment/preparation process:

  1. •participation in weekly Eucharistic celebrations

  2. •participation by the candidate and the sponsor or parent at six (6) monthly Confirmation preparation sessions on Sunday evenings between October and May and one weekend retreat (January 28-30, 2011)

  3. •active participation by the candidate in at least half of the STAY Sunday evening sessions (including the Masses and social events)

  4. •participation in a minimum of three (3) STAY COOL service events

  5. •participation in the reconciliation service on either April 11 or April 18, 2011

  6. •participation in the confirmation rehearsal on May 13 and the Confirmation Mass on May 14.

Confirmation 2010

Thirty-one STAY youth received the sacrament of Confirmation in May 2010.  This year’s mass will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2010 with Bishop McGrath presiding.

Confirmation candidates and their parent or sponsor will meet monthly on Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:00 pm in the OLR Hall (west side) in preparation for the Confirmation Mass. Everyone is invited to come at 5:30 for appetizers. At 7:00 pm the Candidates will then join either the middle school or high school sessions until 8:30 pm.  Dates of the sessions are noted on the STAYCalendar.pdf.



Attendance Policy


Both the youth candidate and a parent or sponsor are required to attend the Confirmation preparation sessions.  One pre-arranged absence will be allowed if necessary. Contact Chris Miller at stayouth@paloaltocatholic.org in advance if you will be missing a Confirmation session.  Any additional absences may jeopardize the possibility of being confirmed.


Youth are required to be enrolled in the STAY program and actively participate in a minimum of half of the STAY sessions, including the Masses and social activities.
